I should have written this days ago, but unfortunately after my two days off to travel to Durham/Newcastle, reality (i.e. essays/presentations) hit!

When we arrived The Sword were on stage. I was looking forward to seeing them but unfortunately the sound was dreadful, even with earplugs in. I can’t really comment on them since I couldn’t hear much; such a shame! The sound for Machine Head wasn’t much better, which was frustrating. I managed to make out two songs I knew (‘Imperium’ & ‘Davidian’) so it wasn’t a total loss. I really enjoyed watching them perform, though. They have a lot of enthusiasm & get top marks for effort. I think they were being genuine when they said Newcastle was a great crowd, my brother read that they hadn’t been getting much of a response at other venues.

I could barely contain my excitement when the lights went down & Metallica were about to take to the stage. ‘That Was Just Your Life’ kicked in – accompanied by a spectacular laser show – & the band appeared. It is going to be so hard to describe the show to anyone who hasn’t experienced it – it was so amazing! The only downfall was that I proved I wasn’t the Metallica fan I thought I was haha. They played a fair amount of tracks from older albums, albums that unfortunately I have only listened to maybe once or twice (yes, bad, I know!). My brother was in his element though, he loves the pre-Black Album material.
